The Queensland government has a clear plan to transform its energy supply from coal- and gas-based to renewable energy. The foundation of this transformation is the Queensland Government’s Energy and Jobs Plan. The plan aims to secure $62 billion of public and private investment in renewable energy infrastructure and equipment. With these investments, Queensland aims for 70% of its energy supply to come from renewables by 2032, rising to 80% by 2035. These targets can only be achieved with the crucial support of renewable energy developers from Queensland. But what are the largest renewable energy developers from Queensland? Based on their installed capacity, their development pipeline and their general activity our renewables.digital research team identified Renewable Energy Partners Pty Ltd, CleanCo Queensland and Dawn Renewables as the largest renewable energy developers from Victoria.
1. Renewable Energy Partners Pty Ltd (Brisbane)
The Brisbane-based company develops large-scale renewable energy projects in Australia, focusing on the early stages of development. Its first project was a 250 MW solar farm in Queensland. To date, the company has developed 1,800 MW of solar energy, 5,400 MW of wind energy, 1,250 MW of hydro energy, and 15,000 MWh of battery storage. They have more than 10 GW of renewable energy projects in their pipeline.
2. CleanCo Queensland (Brisbane)
CleanCo is a corporation owned by the Queensland Government and dedicated to providing clean energy solutions. It focuses on developing and supporting renewable energy projects through direct investment and long-term offtake agreements. The company’s goal is to have 5 GW of renewable energy capacity in operation or under construction by 2030. This includes an expanding portfolio of solar, wind and hydroelectric assets. Currently, the company operates wind farms near Brisbane, Rockhampton, and Cairns.
3. Dawn Renewables (Brisbane)
Despite being founded in 2021, Dawn Renewables has already developed 2.2 GW of renewable energy projects in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland. The company specialises in developing solar and wind farms, as well as battery energy storage systems. With a capacity of 700 MW, the Cobbora Solar Farm is one of the largest in Australia. In Queensland, Dawn Renewables operates the Budgee Wind Farm, which has a capacity of 100–150 MW.
