Ukraine has emerged as a resilient frontier in renewable energy, driven by wartime infrastructure disruption and the urgent need for decentralised power systems. In 2024, the country added around 800–850 MW of new solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity, primarily through business and residential self-consumption installations. Although Ukraine’s cumulative PV capacity is still modest compared to that in Western Europe, the sector is growing rapidly. The government has set a target of installing 12.2 GW of solar capacity by 2030, establishing solar energy as a key part of the nation’s reconstruction and energy independence strategy. Below, we present three Ukrainian companies at the forefront of this transition, driving it forward through large-scale engineering, investment and international expertise. The companies presented here are among our list of the largest PV installers in Europe.
1. Solar SSK (Solar Steelconstruction): integrated EPC and manufacturing expertise
Headquartered in Dnipro, Solar SSK is one of Eastern Europe’s largest solar engineering and manufacturing companies. The firm combines EPC services with in-house production of mounting systems and steel structures for solar power plants. Solar SSK has an impressive track record, having delivered over 4 GW of installed solar capacity and 500 MW under EPC contracts, with an annual production capacity of 2 GW. Solar SSK has completed over 500 ground-mounted installations and 3,700 rooftop installations across Ukraine and internationally. The company is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, EN 1090 and SA8000 standards and continues to expand internationally, with recent projects in North Macedonia and other European markets.
2. Rodina Energy Group – an international EPC company with Ukrainian roots
Rodina Energy Group is a Ukrainian EPC and O&M company that specialises in engineering, constructing and maintaining large-scale and commercial rooftop PV plants in emerging markets. With over 12 years’ experience, the Group has completed more than 80 large-scale projects totalling 1.5 GWp of installed capacity. Rodina currently operates in 13 countries, including projects in Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. In Ukraine, the company is best known for the ‘Solar Chernobyl’ project, which it developed with ENERPARC AG. This was the first private solar installation built inside the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone since 1986, and it symbolises both technical leadership and environmental renewal.
3. Avenston Group – investment-driven solar development
Avenston Group combines investment, development and implementation expertise for commercial and utility-scale solar projects in Ukraine. The company has been involved in over 600 MW of completed projects, acting as both an EPC partner and an investor. Avenston provides project financing, technical and legal due diligence, and management of operating portfolios. Since 2023, the company has focused on the growing segment of commercial rooftop systems for self-consumption, while also developing ground-mounted merchant projects for sale on the open electricity market. With its partner-oriented and data-driven approach, Avenston supports domestic and international investors in delivering efficient, bankable PV assets that contribute to Ukraine’s sustainable energy transition.
