Elgin Energy was founded in 2009 with a view to developing solar energy for both subsidy and post-subsidy markets. Their expansion to the Irish market in 2015 was based on the pursuit of their 2020 Vision to deliver unsubsidized solar from 2020 onwards. Their current portfolio consists of over 1GW which will come from approximately 60 projects with confirmed planning permission. The London-based solar group remains firmly committed to delivering a sustainable future with 3GW of projects in the pipeline across the UK, Ireland and Australia.
In August 2021, Elgin Energy confirmed the financing arrangement for their 1.4GW solar portfolio. The solar developer has received backing from the German bank Berenberg Green Energy Junior Debt Fund III. The German bank will finance approximately 50 solar projects spread across the UK and Ireland which are in the latter stages of project development. Elgin hopes for the first projects to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2022, the solar developer has a previous 98% success rate through planning. This solar project represents a cornerstone in their objective to deliver over 5GW of projects by 2025.
