The Swiss investment group were founded in 2011 to achieve their goal of being a key driver in the global transition to green energy sources. The investment group relies on their in-house analytics with years of experience to identify market gaps which offer business opportunities. Smartenergy focus on the acquisition of wind, solar and hydro projects in all stages of development. To date, they have invested in projects located in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, and Portugal.
In April 2022, it was announced that Spanish renewables developer Grupo Prodiel and Smartenergy would partner to develop 4GW worth of solar projects in Spain. Their joint venture has been named Greenfield PV and is comprised of a team of over 50 specialists working on the 4GW project. In addition to this joint venture, Smartenergy will acquire a further 1GW worth of Spanish solar projects from Prodiel which will also be developed by Greenfield PV. This joint venture could be a sign of numerous future projects to come as Smartenergy aim to accelerate their solar growth in Spain. The Swiss investment group have placed their trust in Prodiel, which have developed 750 projects across 11 countries mainly consisting of solar and high voltage plants.
