1. Banks Renewables Limited (Durham)

Banks Renewables Limited is part of the Banks Group, a family firm founded in 1976. The Durham-based renewable energy developer is involved in all stages of project development, working closely with landowners. The company has a diverse expertise and develops wind, solar and battery storage projects – as of 2022, Bank Renewables has an installed capacity of 223MW in their portfolio. The project developer has Onshore wind and solar energy projects all over the United Kingdom.

Update 2024: Banks Renewables was acquired by Brookfield Asset Management in December 2023 and is now rebranding as OnPath Energy. OnPath Energy has outlined its extensive pipeline, which exceeds 4GW of renewable capacity. This includes 11 operational onshore wind farms located across Scotland and northern England.

2. Green Investment Group (Edinburgh)

The Green Investment Group was acquired by the Sydney base Macquarie Group Limited after five years in the field of green infrastructure. Therefore, the Edinburgh developer represents one of the world’s largest specialized green infrastructure investor and developer team with the overall goal to expedite the energy transition. While the GIG manages renewable energy projects worldwide, their portfolio of developed projects includes offshore wind parks as well as solar farms and onshore wind farms. Solely the offshore wind parks produce approximately 8 GW of wind energy.

3. Lightsource BP (London)

The pioneer in the development of solar energy parks, Lightsource BP, were able to realize renewable energy projects in 14 different countries. Based on their mission to transform the energy generation to a more sustainable way, the developer implements the projects by using the newest technologies. While aiming the renunciation from the emission generation energy supply chain, the London based developer is striving to drive the energy transition further forward. During the last years, Lightsource BP was able to develop projects with a total capacity of 3 GW and a global 16 GW pipeline project. In 2023, Lightsource sold a finished solar project in the UK involving 300 MW of installed capacity to the global energy producer Sonnedix.
