List of 3 large renewable energy developers in Australia
Renewable energy is an increasingly important part of Australia’s energy mix. With high solar exposure, vast land areas, and strong wind resources both onshore and offshore, the country is well-positioned to expand its clean energy capacity. As of 2024, renewable sources supply around 40% of Australia’s electricity, supporting over 20,000 jobs. Central to this growth are the developers building and operating key infrastructure. This article profiles three of the largest renewable energy developers active in Australia today.

Squadron Energy is a leading Australian company focused on the development, operation, and ownership of renewable energy assets across the country. The Australian-owned company has 1.1 GW in its portfolio and a further 900 MW under construction. Its portfolio includes solar and wind farms across the country, such as the Uungula Wind Farm and Clarke Creek Solar Farm.
2. Tilt Renewables (Melbourne, Victoria)
Tilt Renewables is another Australian renewable energy developer, established in 2016 following a spin-off from Trustpower. Its current portfolio has 1.8 GW of operational renewable energy capacity, with projects across Australia and New Zealand. Its development pipeline exceeds 5 GW. Its portfolio includes several solar and wind farms, including the Broken Hill Solar Farm and the Coopers Gap Wind Farm.

Its largest assets to date are the Hornsdale and Macarthur wind farms, which have a capacity of more than 300 MW and 420 MW respectively.
Renewable energy developers in Australia
Almost every large-scale renewable energy installation in Australia is based on the work of a renewable energy developer. Developers acquire land plots, realize the installation of PV panels or wind energy generators, connect the installation to the grid, and subsequently sell it to renewable energy investors. Our list is the most extensive database of Australian renewable energy developers and gives a great overview of companies with a renewable energy project pipeline.
