List of 3 large renewable energy developers from New York
When most people think of New York, they immediately picture the city’s impressive skyline – especially at night when thousands of lights are on. Speaking of thousands of lights, the city also consumes a huge amount of energy, which puts high demands on the utility. With its favourable conditions for renewable energy generation, New York is an important location for developers of renewable energy projects. In the following, some of those developers will be introduced.
1. LS Power
The family- and employee-owned development, investment and operating company was founded in 1990 by Mike Segal and Michael Liebelson. As part of the LS Group, LS Power Development has developed over 13,000 MW of power generation. Its project portfolio includes a national fleet of utility-scale projects, including solar, wind, hydro, natural gas and battery storage generation projects. In addition, LS Power is an infrastructure investment manager with more than $10 billion of equity capital.
2. Convergent Energy + Power
Providing experience in the fields of financing and developing energy storage systems, Convergent Energy + Power enables significant savings as well as sustainability. Since its founding in 2011, the renewable energy developer was able to pair around 50% of the portfolio with photovoltaic solar energy and implement the largest behind-the-meter battery energy storage system. Since its beginnings, the renewable energy investor has over $1bn invested in or committed to energy storage and solar systems across North America. Convergent Energy and Power has achieved a new milestone of over 800 MW / 1 GWh in energy storage and solar-plus-storage systems, equivalent to powering around 750,000 homes.
3. Saturn Power
New York-based renewable energy developer Saturn Power builds, operates and owns wind farms, solar farms and energy storage projects. Committed to sustainable energy for the future, Saturn Power is committed to finding innovative solutions for each project and providing the expertise to make them a reality. Over the last few years, they have been able to build 178MW of renewable energy and storage, with a further +600MW or renewable energy projects currently in development.
