List of 3 large renewable energy developers from Texas
As the leading state in terms of energy production, producing more than one-fifth of the nation’s domestic energy, Texas is one of the most important areas in the United States for energy developers. With its large size and abundance of sunny days, Texas also has great potential for renewable energy production, which is why many renewable energy developers have set up shop in the state. Here are three renewable energy developers based in Texas.
Update: According to the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA), solar power generation in Texas increased by 46% in January 2024 compared to January 2023, reaching 2.2 million megawatt-hours. By early 2025, Texas has 42,000 megawatts (MW) of wind, 22,000 MW of solar, and 6,500 MW of utility-scale battery capacity. All in all, the transition to renewable energy in Texas seems to be accelerating. Especially compared to other states. It is estimated that Texas has installed nearly 80% more combined solar, wind and battery capacity than the second-place state. This makes Texas the leader in the US energy transition.
1. Recurrent Energy (Austin)
Recurrent Energy, headquartered in Austin, Texas, is a leading developer, owner, and operator of utility-scale solar and energy storage projects. Established in 2006, it operates as a subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc. To date, the company has successfully Recurrent Energy has completed the development of 11 gigawatts (GWp) of operating utility-scale solar projects and more than 3 gigawatt hours (GWh) of energy storage projects across six continents. With operations in 11 countries and a workforce of over 180 employees, Recurrent Energy continues to expand its global footprint. One of their largest projects in Texas is Liberty Solar, a solar power plant with a capacity of 100 MWp.
2. OCI Energy (San Antonio)
This San Antonio-based renewable energy developer builds and operates utility-scale solar projects and battery energy storage systems. By providing not only sustainable energy but also economic benefits, OCI Energy implements its core values of sustainability, commitment, innovation and excellence. To date, the company has nearly 1GW of renewable energy in operation or under construction. More than 5,000 MW is in the pipeline. OCI’s work is no longer limited to Texas, as OCI Energy is actively expanding across the US.
3. Leeward Renewable Energy LLC. (Dallas)
The Dallas-based renewable energy developer has completed more than 30 projects, generating more than 3 GW of wind, solar and battery storage. An additional 130 projects are in development. 22 of its current 30 projects are wind farms, while it operates 3 solar farms with a further 3.2GW under development. Several of its wind farms are located in Nolan County, Texas. Even more of their solar farms are also located in Texas.
Texas-based developers for wind farms, solar parks and more

Texas is known for its vast open spaces – the perfect place for solar and wind farms. Texas is known for its vast expanses of land – the perfect place for solar and wind farms. As a result, Texas is a popular state for renewable energy project developers. Project developers are central to the successful expansion of green energy. Developers select sites, handle studies and permitting, plan and design projects, and work closely with installation companies and other necessary stakeholders. Our list is the most comprehensive database of Texas-based renewable energy developers and provides a great overview of companies with a renewable energy project pipeline.
