In addition, the electricity demand is increasing, as in all parts of the world, in many industrialized as well as emerging countries found there. Accordingly, the renewable energy industry is a highly interesting sector for investors from all over the world. Asian investors are not only on the move in their home countries but are increasingly shaping the development and rise of ‘green energy’ worldwide. In the following, we introduce 5 Asian renewable energy investors:

1. Adani Green Energy Limited (India, Gujarat)

The company’s total operational renewable portfolio reaches nearly 12 GW, making it one of the largest renewable energy companies in India. With a focus on solar and wind, Adani is active across the value chain, not only owning projects but also developing and building them, as well as operating and maintaining utility-scale projects. Until 2030, the company wants to have a renewable portfolio of 50GW.

Update: Adani Green Energy has launched operations at a 551MW solar power generation facility in Khavda, Gujarat, India. The company is developing Khavda into the world’s largest solar park, targeting a capacity of 30 GW. With the inclusion of these new solar plants.

Research for our directory of Asian renewable energy investors

The list of Asian renewable energy investors is the result of a continuous research process: our team screens transactions, analyses new projects and works with various investors and project developers in the renewable energy industry. Using our state-of-the-art crawler technology, the list is updated and expanded several times a year. All list entries are also available via our online database.

Different types of green energy investors were covered

Our list includes four main types of renewable energy investors: asset and investment managers, utilities, independent power producers and family offices. Asset managers invest on behalf of institutional investors and manage a portfolio of renewable energy assets for their funds. This includes operating the portfolio, selling energy through PPAs and on the open market, and acquiring new assets. The same applies to independent power producers, except that they use or supply their own energy. Utilities are acquiring – and in some cases building – renewable assets to provide carbon-neutral and affordable energy to their customers. Family offices – the investment firms of wealthy families – have recently started to invest in renewables, including the acquisition of wind and solar farms.

The interconnection between renewable energy investors and developers

In Asia, renewable energy developers and investors work closely together to meet the region’s growing demand for clean power and infrastructure. Developers focus on identifying project opportunities, securing permits, and building assets such as solar farms, wind parks, and hydroelectric plants. Investors, ranging from global infrastructure funds to local financial institutions, provide the capital needed to develop and scale these projects. Having these important interconnections in mind, we also provide a list of the largest renewable energy developers in Asia.
