Wind developers in Europe

List of 5 large wind park developers in Europe

The European Union has set high goals in terms of climate protection and wants to become climate-neutral by 2050, with emissions already reduced by over 50% in 2030. An important part of this so-called “Green Deal” is the expansion of renewable energies, which leads to the emergence of more and more developers in this field. Solar energy and wind energy are most often the focus of developers. Especially in the north of Europe, wind energy is well known and used. Wind plants exist both in the sea (so-called offshore plants) and mainly on land – so-called onshore wind plants. This article presents 5 of the largest wind energy developers in Europe.

1.  Iberdrola, S.A. (Bilbao, Spain)

Headquartered in Bilbao, Spain, the company has become a global leader in renewable energy and smart grids. In the 20 years since it was founded, Iberdrola, S.A. has installed more than 44,400 MW of renewable capacity worldwide. A particular focus is on the development of onshore and offshore wind farms. More than 6,500 MW of offshore wind power is expected to be installed by 2030. Iberdrola already has wind farms in the US, UK, France, Germany, Japan and Australia. Onshore, the renewable energy developer has already installed 20,700 MW of wind power. Projects include the largest wind farm in Portugal and others in South America and the United States. The company plans to invest €41 billion in further projects between 2024 and 2026.

2. Orsted A/S (Fredericia, Denmark)

The Danish renewable energy developer is a prime example of the transformation of global energy production. Orsted was one of the most coal-intensive companies in Europe, responsible for a third of Denmark’s total carbon emissions. Since 2008, the company has undergone a green transformation to become a world leader in offshore wind. Orsted plans to install 20-22 GW of offshore wind power by 2030. Orsted is also active in onshore wind and solar. Projects are located around the world. The main focus is on Europe, the US and Asia, especially Taiwan, Malaysia, Korea and Australia

3. RWE AG (Essen, Germany)

RWE has undergone many changes in its 125-year history. Today, RWE is driving the transition to green energy. RWE has several subsidiaries focused on different renewable energy sectors and geographical regions. RWE Renewables Europe & Australia GmbH is responsible for the development, construction and operation of onshore wind farms, solar farms and battery storage in Australia and Europe. RWE Offshore Wind GmbH has already developed and commissioned 19 offshore wind farms in Europe, the USA and Asia. Most recently, RWE Clean Energy, LLC has become a leading renewable energy company in the United States. Over 12 GW of wind energy has already been installed.

We used the list to extend our lead database for wind park developers. We already knew 40% of the firms, but the remaining 60% were enormously helpful new firms. We can highly recommend this great source
