Renewable energy plays a huge role in Italy’s energy sector – over a third of produced electricity in Italy comes from sustainable energy sources. The largest green energy source is hydroelectric power, followed by energy from solar parks, bioenergy plants, wind parks and geothermal plants. The renewable energy plants not only have to be financed, developed and built, they also have to be operated and maintained. O&M companies are responsible for this task, one which is indispensable for the energy transition. This article presents three large operations and maintenance companies that come from Italy and are active there.
1. IVPC S.r.l. – renewable energy expert from Avellino
The IVPC Group (Italia Vento Power Corporation) is one of the largest Italian renewable energy companies and a leading national operator of wind farms and solar plants. Since their founding in 1993, IVPC has accumulated experience and has developed wind farms with a capacity of over 1GW, owned over 280MW and managed approx. 220MW of wind farms. While the group has a total of 12 subsidiaries, five service companies are specialised on providing O&M services.
2. ecoprime Italia S.r.l. – Wind and Solar O&M services from Milano
Ecoprime is a renewable energy company based in Milano. Since their foundation in 2011, ecoprime provides and manages technical operation and maintenance as well as asset management services for renewable energy assets in Europe. As of 2023, the company has a portfolio of over 200 renewable energy projects which consist of over 500MW of capacity. Regarding their O&M services, ecoprime offers a range of services, starting from plant operation monitoring, preventive and corrective maintenance over revamping and repowering to the processing of warranty claims.
3. Stern Energy S.p.a.
Stern energy is a specialised operator from Parma, which was founded in 2008. The company offers technical services for the management, maintenance and even construction of photovoltaic systems. Stern energy focuses on assets in Europe and is present in Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and in France. In their home country Italy, the company has over 400 plants. Overall, the O&M company has over 1.3 GW of installed capacity.
