List of the 3 largest solar parks in the US [2023]

united states of america large-scale solar projects

This article is based on our list of the 300 largest solar energy developers in the USA which contains general contact details, company details as well as information about development focus. The list also holds personal contact information.

By the end of 2022, the cumulative installed solar PV capacity in the United States was at 19,502 MWp. In this article, our team presents the three largest solar projects in the United States as of July 2023.

1. Cooper Mountain Solar Facility (Boulder City, Nevada)

The Copper Mountain Solar Facility is a 802MW photovoltaic solar power plant located in Boulder City, Nevada. The plant was developed by Sempra Generation. When the first unit of the photovoltaic project became operational in December 2010, it was the largest photovoltaic system in the USA at an operational capacity of 58 MW. Now again, it became the largest PV plant in the United States since the instalment of Copper Mountain V in March 2021. The plant shares its location with the 300 MW Techren Solar, the 150 MW Boulder Solar and the 64 MW Nevada Solar One. Together, they are able to build a solar energy capacity of over 1GW.

2. Mount Signal Solar (Calexico, California)

The solar project Mount Signal Solar, also named the ‘Imperial Valley Solar Project’ will have a capacity of 794MW. Located west of Calexico, California, the facility is being developed by 8minutenergy Renewables. Development is happening in three phases, with the first phase commissioned in May 2014 and the second phase completed in July 2018. When it is completely finished, the solar farm is expected to count as one of the world’s largest photovoltaic solar farms.

3. Solar Star (Rosamond, California)

Solar Star is a 579MW solar photovoltaic park. Located near Rosamond, California, it was developed and is maintained by SunPower Services. At the time the solar park was set up in June 2015, it was the world‘s biggest solar park when it comes to installed capacity. Compared to other photovoltaic projects, the Solar Star uses a smaller number of large crystalline silicon modules which have a high efficiency.
