About one-twelfth of the total energy that is produced in Italy, including non-renewable energy, is from PV solar plants. An impressive growth has taken place over the last decade due to the change in the levelized cost of energy, which has dropped by over 80%. The following three companies have been part of this change towards renewable energy and own large PV portfolios in Italy.
1) Enel Green Power
Since Enel Green Power manages 54 GW of renewable energy capacity across the world, it counts as the world’s biggest renewable energy company. The company manages over 1,200 power plants on five continents and has assets in operation, under construction or in development in 26 countries. Specifically in Italy, the company holds 606 hydro, wind, solar and geothermal plants with a total capacity of 14.2GW.
2) Absolute Energy
Absolute Energy is an investment platform which is focused on environmental technologies and renewable energies. Since its foundation, Absolute Energy has managed development and co-invested into PV projects with a total capacity of over 450MW. Moreover, the company has invested its capital resources in different solar PV Projects in Italy.
3) Eni S.P.A
The Rome-based global energy company Eni S.P.A. is active at every stage of the value chain from natural gas and oil to electricity and renewables. The company has dedicated itself to the energy transition and takes actions to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Active in 69 countries, the company holds a renewable energy capacity of 1.1GW. Most of the company‘s investments are in Italy. Its strategic plan for 2022 to 2025 includes raising its renewable energy capacity to 6GW.
