List of 3 offshore wind developers from the Oresund region

This article is based on our list of the 450 largest renewable energy developers in Europe containing general contact details, company details as well as information about the development focus. The list also offers personal contact information.

The Oresund Region is a metropolitan region located in eastern Denmark and southern Sweden, with cities such as Malmo, Copenhagen, and Helsingborg. The region has a population of over 4 million and is also known as Greater Copenhagen. The region has the potential for large-scale offshore wind development and has already had numerous projects developed in the area. The region is a key component of Copenhagen’s plans to become a climate-positive capital by 2035.

1) European Energy – Wind and Solar developer based in Copenhagen

The Danish group first entered into offshore wind projects in 2018 with the acquisition of their Sprogo Windpark from Sund & Baelt Holding. The 21MW represented a key step into the offshore market and the group has put in place plans to add to its portfolio. In April 2022, European Energy’s plan to construct five offshore wind turbines with an installed capacity between 21.6 and 72MW was provisionally approved, pending approval for the development permit. The group is awaiting a decision on the permit which was submitted for consultation at the end of May.

2) Copenhagen Energy – Offshore wind developer based in Copenhagen

Copenhagen Energy (CE) was founded in 2020 with the aim to accelerate the development of European offshore wind, with a heightened focus on the Oresund region. Shortly after its foundation, CE received approval to develop a 560MW project in Jammerland Bay and Omo, which will become the first zero-subsidy offshore wind farm in Denmark. Outside of the Oresund region, the group announced plans to develop 3GW of offshore wind off the coast of Western Australia.

3) Kustvind – Offshore wind developed based in Malmo

Kustvind is a Swedish group that specializes in offshore wind development. The Malmo-based group partnered with Norweigan developer Magnora in 2020 to complete a 500MW offshore wind project in southern Sweden. The Sydkustens project is located 8km offshore the southern coast of Sweden, consisting of 25 wind turbines, and has the capacity to supply electricity to over 100,000 houses in the region.
