Texas as the national leader in the wind energy industry produces more wind power than any other state in the US. In Texas, there are over 150 wind farms with a combined capacity of over 30,000MW. According to the American Wind Energy Association in 2019, the installed wind capacity in Texas even surpasses the installed wind capacity in most countries in the world except for the United States, Germany, China and India.

1) Greencoat Capital (Dublin, Ireland)

Greencoat Capital LLC is one of the largest investment managers in Europe that specializes in the renewable energy sector. Since its founding in 2009 it is now investing into solar, wind, bioenergy and renewable heat assets in the United Kingdom, Europe as well as the United States.

In 2021, the UK company acquired a 24% stake in four onshore wind farms in Texas with a total capacity of 207MW. It bought the stake from the company RWE which operates the wind farms. Located in south Texas, the four wind farms called Stella, Cranell and East and West Raymond have a total capacity of 861MW.

2) NextEra Energy Partners (Florida, US)

The US-based company NextEra Energy Partners is a limited partnership which was formed in the year 2014 by NextEra Energy, Inc. The company acquires and owns wind and solar as well as natural gas projects. NextEra Energy Partners bought wind power assets in several locations in North America. The company acquired a 50% interest in the White Mesa wind farm in Texas with a capacity of 501MW as well as the 300MW Hubbard wind farm.

3) Exus Management Partners (Madrid, Spain)

Spain-based company Exus Management Partners is an independent investment firm which specializes in the renewable energy sector. It invests into wind, solar and small hydro assets and has a total capacity of 9GW in 10 countries in Europe and America under management. The company acquired the Rattlesnake wind farm in Texas with a capacity of 160MW, which is now owned by one of the investment companies that Exus Management Partners advises.
