The UK is considered as one of the best locations for wind power in the world. No wonder that wind power is the biggest source of renewable energy in the United Kingdom: By August 2022, the UK had over 11,000 wind turbines installed with a total capacity of over 25.5GW which includes a capacity of 14.2GW from onshore wind and 11.3GW from offshore wind.
The following three companies are a part of the extensive utilization of wind energy in the UK and own large wind portfolios. This article is based on our top 50 list of renewable energy investors from the UK.
1) Foresight Group
Founded in 1984, London-based Foresight Group is a large-scale infrastructure and equity fund management firm with solar, wind and hydro assets. The company manages over £12 billion for its investors, operates in eight countries and manages over 190 renewable energy assets. 22 of these renewable energy assets are large-scale onshore wind farms in the UK, France and Germany.
2) Octopus Renewables
Established in 2000, the London-based investment firm invests into solar, wind, tidal and green hydrogen assets. It manages a total of 310 large-scale renewable energy assets with a combined capacity of 3.2GW. Since its founding, the company has quickly evolved to one of the largest investors of solar power in Europe. In addition to solar power, Octopus Renewables is considered as one of the rising investors in the area of onshore wind.
3) Glennmont Partners
London-based Glennmont Partners is one of Europe’s largest fund managers that focuses exclusively on renewable energy assets. The company’s primary markets include the UK, France, Ireland, Portugal and Italy. Since its founding in 2007, Glennmont Partners has acquired several solar, onshore and offshore wind, biomass and hydro projects. Overall, it has invested over €2.7 billion into 38 clean energy assets with a total capacity of 4369MW.
