While photovoltaic systems for self-consumption are dominating the solar market in Sweden, utility-scale solar parks are also starting to proliferate recently. This segment is expected to experience significant growth in the coming years. The three following developers are an extract of our database. They are partaking in the change towards a more sustainable future by developing large-scale solar projects in Sweden.
1) Neoen: Independent Power Producer from Paris, France
Founded in 2008, Neoen is a leading French renewable energy producer. The company is not only relevant in France, but also an important global player in the renewable energy sector. It produces renewable energy on a large scale. Neoen‘s total capacity in operation or development is currently close to 6.6 GW. But the company does not stop there: It is planning for over 10 GW by 2025. By 2030, Neoen‘s ambition is to have doubled that capacity and to have reached 20 GW. In Sweden, Neoen is partaking in an interesting solar project: Together with Swedish solar developer Alight, Neoen is developing a 90 MW solar park. The solar panels will be installed around the Hultsfred airport which is located in the south-east of Sweden. The developers are planning for construction in the second half of 2023 and expect the solar project to become operational in 2025.
2) OX2: Renewables developer from Stockholm, Sweden
Stockholm-based OX2 develops renewable energy projects from acquisition to commercial management. The development of solar parks has been a focus of the company’s growth strategy since 2018. So far, they have built a project portfolio of around 4.3 GW in eight markets, across different stages of development. In Sweden, the developer currently has seven different large-scale solar projects under development. This includes the 100MW Brunskog-Stjärnarp PV in Halmstad kommun and the 75MW Bonnarp PV in Klippan, which will both be commissioned in 2026. Moreover, OX2 is developing a 150 MW solar park named Kogshult PV in Sjöbo, which is expected to become operational in 2027.
3) Helios Nordic Energy: Solar developer from Täby, Sweden
Sweden-based Helios Nordic Energy develops large-scale solar farms and battery storage projects in the Nordics. The Swedish secured land for over 30 projects in Sweden. The company‘s pipeline is above 1.5GW. An example for one of their current development projects in Sweden are two solar projects totalling over 110MW. The first solar farm is close to the Hultsfred airport in southern Sweden and will have 92MW of capacity. This makes it one of the largest solar projects to ever enter the construction phase in Sweden. The second solar project is located in the estate of Medinge and will have an installed capacity of up to 21MW. Both parks are expected to become operational before the end of 2025.
