Acciona are world renowned for their development, construction, and operation of renewable energy who specialise in wind and solar energy. The Spanish renewables group are also involved in the development of green hydrogen. According to Energy Intelligence, Acciona is the world’s largest 100% renewable energy corporation.
The Spanish company boasts an impressive renewable portfolio with over 11.24GW of installed capacity spread across five continents. In 2021, the Spanish renewable energy developer generated 24,541GW of green energy, enough to supply 7.6 million households. Wind power contributes 8.8GW of this total with projects in Hungary, India, and Mexico. With over 25 years of experience in the field, Acciona has built strong relationships which allow the company to develop large-scale renewable projects.
This is highlighted in their relationship with wind turbine constructors Nordex, through which they have developed their own proprietary wind technology. By 2025, Acciona aims to accomplish its Sustainability Master Plan to cement their place as one of the world leaders in regenerative infrastructure. This plan is based on their four pillars: planet positive, people-centric, exponential leadership and integrate to transform. The plan also consists of an acceleration in project development, with 17GW due to be developed by 2025 and an additional 33GW by 2030.
In March 2022, Acciona have completed the development of an 8.5MW Lloseta solar project. In collaboration with Colway Energia, the Lloseta solar farm was constructed in 6 months. The Lloseta site will be used to supply the Power to Green Hydrogen Mallorca project, which is also being developed by Acciona. The green hydrogen project will have a production of at least 300 tonnes of renewable hydrogen a year using the GreenH2Chain platform.
In January 2024, Acciona Energia finalised its first hybrid renewable energy facility. This hybrid park, consisting of a 36MW wind component and a 29MW solar plant, has been integrated into the existing Escepar wind farm site in Spain. The project spans across the municipalities of Villalba del Rey and Tinajas in Cuenca.
