What’s the focus of BayWa r.e.?

BayWa r.e. is a leading developer in Germany and Europe. It is part of the German conglomerate BayWa AG, which is mainly active in the agriculture business. BayWa r.e. focuses on the development of solar and wind parks with end-to-end solutions. It has realized projects with more than 3.5GW and manages projects with more than 9GW.

Leading renewables developer from Munich

The renewables division of BayWa is one of the leading renewables developers in the world. The firm is now active in 28 countries. For example, recently a 250MW wind farm was finished in Rotan, Texas. The activities of BayWa r.e. range from energy solutions to PV, hybrid, solar distribution, bioenergy and energy trading. The hybrid division combines different types of assets, e.g. wind, solar and energy storage. Thereby, also remote grids can be realized.

Wind energy development - also offshore

Baywa r.e. has more than 30 years experience in onshore wind farms. Recently, the German renewables developer also started working on offshore wind projects. Target markets are UK, France, Germany and South Korea. So fare, more than 100 wind projects were realized by BayWa - and 900,000 households are supplied with BayWa's green energy. The largest wind farm in the U.S. - so far- was realized in 2014 in South Dakota. In total, 43 wind turbines of GE were uses to realize the 80 MW wind farm. After 12 months, the wind farm was sold.

Major solar renewables developer active globally

A key part of BayWa r.e.'s operations is the development of solar farms. So far, more than 625 solar projects were realized with more than 1.6 GW power. The firm is globally active, for example playing a major role in Australia's energy transition by developing a major project in north-western Victoria.

Innovative projects in France, Spain, Netherlands, Germany and Italy

BayWa r.e. secured €6.5 million of funding from the EU’s LIFE Programme. The funding will support the development of six projects in five countries by 2027, that explore methods to integrate agriculture with solar power generation. The projects are located in France, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany and Italy.
