Since their initial solar project in 2015, consisting of 60MW the Spanish solar group have gone from strength to strength. Their current portfolio consists of a total installed capacity of 2.2GW of solar-powered energy. The renewables team was made up of 10 employees in 2015 and has since then grown to 300, highlighting the rate of their expansion. The Madrid group were responsible for the largest PV project in Europe with over 800MW total installed capacity. Ignis have a strong national presence, their portfolio consists of more than 10% of Spain’s total PV capacity.
In October 2021, the Spanish solar developer confirmed the investment from global renewables group Vortex Energy. The investment will aid the Madrid-based group to accelerate their development of solar energy. Ignis already boasts an impressive portfolio with over 14GW of renewable energy in construction in Spain and a further 8GW across the European, North American and Asian Pacific markets. Following the completion of the investment, Vortex Energy will own a 49% stake in Ignis Energy. The investment allows for the Madrid group to become a fully operational independent power producer.
