Denmark-based Ørsted, formerly known as DONG Energy, is a Danish multinational power company that provides global sustainable energy solutions including offshore and onshore wind, solar and storage. Based in Fredericia, Ørsted is the largest energy company in Denmark.
The Danish developer Ørsted entered four partnerships to pursue solar and onshore wind projects in Spain and announced multi-GW ambitions in the market long-term. It is entering partnerships with Glide Energy Renewables Spain, ARBA Energías Renovables, Rolwind Renovables and Ereda and established a team and office in Madrid.
Ørsted signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with five of Walmart’s corporate suppliers to supply Walmart with electricity from the 200MW Sunflower Wind wind farm in the US. Located in Marion County in Kansas, the onshore wind farm will supply the five companies with about 250,000MWh of renewable power annually over the 12-year term of the PPA.
In 2023, Denmark-based Orsted will acquire the 25% equity stake in the 1100MW Ocean Wind 1 from Public Service Enterprise Group. This acquisition gives Orsted full ownership of the offshore wind project. The project is located off the coast of southern New Jersey in the US and full commissioning is expected in 2025.
