Headquartered in Essen in Germany, RWE AG is a global energy company that generates and trades electricity sustainably. It is active internationally: From the Asia-Pacific over Europe to the United States. The company is Europe's third largest renewable energy company in renewable energy. When it comes to their focus, RWE is the number two worldwide in offshore wind energy. The company owns and operates a total capacity of offshore wind energy amounting to 3 GW in Europe.
RWE Offshore Wind GmbH, the daughter company of RWE AG, plans to increase its capacity from offshore wind energy to 8 GW by 2030. As part of its “Growing Green” growth strategy in the renewable energy market, the company will invest billion of euros to expand offshore wind energy. This will also include several projects outside of Europe, such as in the United States and the Asia-Pacific region.
RWE is developing and operating battery storage systems in Europe, Australia and the US. Presently, the company manages battery storage facilities with a total capacity of approximately 500 MW and is in the process of executing battery storage projects with a capacity exceeding 900 MW globally. RWE aims to bolster its battery storage business to 6GW worldwide by 2030. In Germany, RWE is developing a dual battery storage system with a total capacity of 220MW. The project, located in Neurath and Hamm, will be one of the largest battery storage systems in Germany once it becomes operational in the second half of 2024.
